Montgomery County Instructions and Information

Before filling out your application, read the examination announcement and/or job description carefully. This application is part of your examination. Answer all questions fully and carefully, making sure all boxes are filled in or checked. Resumes will NOT be accepted in lieu of this application.

  • Applicants must answer all questions on the application. Incomplete applications may be disapproved.
  • ALL STATEMENTS ARE SUBJECT TO VERIFICATION. Any false, misleading, or unverified information may result in disqualification.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Do not use a resume as a substitute for completing the application.

Please read the examination announcement or job posting carefully. The position you are applying for may require specific information related to the qualifications, such as: training certificates, educational requirements, licenses, transcripts, etc. These items may be attached to your application. Follow all instructions on the screen. It is your responsibility to provide all pertinent information requested. Omissions or vagueness will not be interpreted in your favor.

Non-Refundable Application Processing Fee (Exams Only)

Refer to the exam announcement for the required processing fee. All application fees are due at the time the application is submitted. The application fee is non-refundable and, therefore, will not be returned if you decide you no longer want to apply for that test, your application is disapproved, you do not take the test(s) or you are not successful on the examination. Also, fee payment cannot be transferred to another examination. Please note that applications and fees postmarked or received after the last filing date will not be processed.

Applying Online

You must create an online account to complete an application for employment or to file for an examination. To create your account, you will need to provide your name, email address and choose a password.

To complete an application for an exam or employment, log into your account, click on the exam title or job opportunity from the list, and fill out the application information (note that if you already have an existing account some of the fields will be prepopulated with your account information).
**If an application fee is due and you wish to complete and submit your application using the online filing process, you must choose the option to pay by credit or debit card.

Applying by Mail or in Person

Print and complete the Montgomery County Employment Application; you can find this form on our website under “Employment Applications”. When completing the Employment Application be sure to indicate either the exam number and title, or the position applying for. Be sure to document how you meet the minimum qualifications /requirements related to the exam or position.
**When applying for exams by mail or in person, your application fee must be in the form of Cash, Check or Money Order made payable to “Montgomery County Personnel”. Both your application and fee must be postmarked or received by our office on or before the last filing date listed on the Exam Announcement.

APPLICATION FEE WAIVERS:

You will be allowed a waiver of the application fee if you meet the qualifications as stated on the examination announcement.

ADMISSION TO EXAM:

Applications are reviewed for qualifying status. If your exam application is disapproved, you will be notified of the reason and given an opportunity to amend your application. All amendments to applications are due by the amendment due date listed on your disapproval letter. CROSSFILER:

If you have applied to take a written test for other local jurisdictions (county, town, city) scheduled on the same test date as this written test, you must notify each of the local jurisdictions at time of application submission to indicate which test site you wish to take your examination, so arrangements can be made for you to take all exams at one test site. You must provide a list of all exam titles, numbers and locations for which you have applied. The Cross-filing form is available at: https://www.co.montgomery.ny.us. All examinations for positions in State government will be held at a State examination center.
